Our team went in three directions today. Steve helped out with supply and food disbursement at the church. From 9-Noon each day they hand out supplies for people in the community. This includes a lot of the supplies that were purchased from the Amazon wish list we posted on Day 0. Tim Richter, the DCE here at Zion, organizes those efforts. As part of our team returned home from their site we saw a big Amazon delivery getting sorted and ready for distribution.
Nancy and Michelle went to a residence that has established a sanctuary for horses and other animals. There were some downed trees that needed clearing, so they work with a chainsaw team to clean up the property. The resident has been caring for rescue horses on the property for many years now.
Jim, David, Pastor Jason, and Dan had their “hands on” portion of chainsaw certification at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Coral, Florida. We haven’t received official word, but it looks promising that we will be chainsaw certified soon. Susan joined us as part of the clean-up crew pulling the cut wood and adding it to piles. Later a bobcat will come and grab all the debris and take it to the street.
We also got to celebrate Susan’s birthday today with cake for dessert!
Tomorrow we plan to head back to Judy’s house from Day 5 and finish her property. There’s a few walls to finish, some power-washing to do on the tile floors, and a lot of debris in the back yard to get out to the street.
Prayer Requests
- The cumulative effect of long days start to take their toll around now. People are generally more tired the later the trip goes, so pray for good rest and energy for tomorrow.
- Pray for Trinity Lutheran Church as they still have a lot of felled trees to clear. They also appeared to have some damage on their school building.
- Pray for groups leaving tomorrow. Part of the North Carolina group (Hilary and Wendy) who have been working with us are heading out. So is John from New Jersey.
