First Trinity Lutheran Church was established in 1839 on William Street in the City Of Buffalo through the kindness of God, by a small group of families who wished to hear God’s Word. In 1847 we joined with 13 other Lutheran congregations around the country to form what eventually became the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
For the first 115 years of our life, we resided solely in the city. We built a second campus on Niagara Falls Boulevard in 1955 and in 1964 a new church was erected at 1570 Niagara Falls Boulevard, our present location. During this time we transitioned to a single property, where we minister today, over 170 years after we were originally founded.
More Than a Building
Our buildings and locations are only a small part of who we are, however. First Trinity is a community of imperfect people loving imperfect people. We welcome all people, just as God welcomes us. We rejoice in the ways God uses each one’s unique gifts, talents and personality to transform His world.
Our faith and actions spring from the foundational truths revealed in God’s Word and the understanding that individual lives are wondrously transformed from the inside-out by His grace. We are firmly grounded by our long and rich Lutheran heritage while our pioneering spirit continually pushes us forward into new and contemporary expressions of our traditional values.
First Trinity is a vibrant community of people with varied backgrounds and experiences who are sharing life together. We are joyful people who laugh and rejoice in the highs of life and hold each other up through the lows. We are a family who supports and encourages each other on a lifelong journey of faith.
